Mass Frame is an Architecture + Design firm based in the United States. The interdisciplinary nature of the work defines a practice that is open and inclusive in its design approach to the built environment. In each project we seek to uncover and explore the elements, contexts, and conditions that yield a holistic, environmentally-conscientious foundation for design.
Project solution are iterative, analysis-based, consumption-cognizant, durable, and environmentally positive to ensure the best outcome for our clients.
We operate with the goal of improving built environments, and are firm believers in those strategies and principles that yield high-performance structures with a minimal impact to our natural resources.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the building stock in the United States is responsible for approximately 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, and approximately 41% of primary energy consumption. These are staggering statistics, but there are many ways to bring these numbers down through design. We understand how to design projects with drastically improved building efficiency that can reduce energy use in the built environment by up to 90%.
This level of performance is achieved through the incorporation of the Passive House Design principles of air-tightness, super-insulation, triple-glazed high-performance windows, passive-solar strategies, and careful detailing + analysis of the building’s exterior envelope. We are vested proponents of these design strategies, and we see them as critical to the movement toward a net-positive energy future for the global built environment.
